Aric Bopp is the Executive Director for Discovery Oasis at Mayo Clinic, Arizona. Discovery Oasis (www.discoveryoasis.com) is an expansive 120-acre development in Phoenix, adjacent to world-renowned Mayo Clinic, envisioned as a biotechnology corridor of collaboration to advance groundbreaking solutions to humanity’s most complex medical challenges.
Discovery Oasis creates an ecosystem of biomedical innovation among a community of established and early stage biotechnology companies, researchers, educators, entrepreneurs, and medical practitioners who are leading the transformation of healthcare.
Aric Bopp previously led the economic development and innovation zone efforts of ASU Knowledge Enterprise, with a specific focus on development of the NOVUS Innovation Corridor and the seven (7) ASU Innovation Zones. In his role at ASU, he helped make Arizona more economically competitive and promote the assets available at ASU to the private sector.
He worked closely with the Arizona Commerce Authority, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, brokerage and real estate community, and local economic developers. Internal to ASU, he also worked with ASU Corporate Engagement and Strategic Partnerships, Career Development and Professional Services, Office of Government and Community Engagement, and the University Real Estate Office.
Before coming to ASU, Bopp served as the deputy director of strategic initiatives for the city of Mesa, where he focused on development of the Mesa Gateway area. He also served as the program manager for the city of Phoenix, where he directed and implemented projects that support the city’s commercial, office and industrial development. Prior to moving to Arizona, Bopp was the executive director for Virginia’s New River Valley Economic Development Alliance.
Michelle De Blasi is a prominent environmental and energy attorney who has decades of experience and relationships assisting clients obtain successful results with their environmental, natural resource and energy projects. She brings her many years of government and “Big Law” experience to her own firm to provide more effective client service at a lower cost. Ms. De Blasi has the horsepower to handle significant cases while providing excellent client service. Ms. De Blasi focuses on business strategy by helping clients in a broad array of industries complete their projects from start to finish, overseeing all aspects of permitting, while assessing business risks and hitting milestones on time and on budget. She advises clients how to avoid disputes, and how to resolve them efficiently and effectively when they cannot be avoided. On the state and federal environmental regulatory levels, clients consistently rely on her knowledge of hazardous waste, air quality, water quality, environmental health and safety, real property due diligence, utility regulation, rail siting and access agreements, natural resource damage issues, land conservation, asbestos, and underground storage tank regulation. Throughout her many years of experience on the energy side of her practice, she has advised clients on due diligence, permitting, siting and contractual agreements for energy generation projects, both traditional and alternative energy, as well as carbon emissions tracking and reporting.
Matt Jensen has been involved with the real estate industry for the past 27 years spending the last 23 years working for The Boyer Company. During that time he has been involved with the development of retail, office, industrial, government and medical office projects. As a development partner, he has direct responsibility for securing new development opportunities, leasing new and existing buildings and overseeing the construction and property management of both new and existing projects. Mr. Jensen has supervised the development of projects throughout the United States and is currently managing active projects in the Tempe, Mesa and Tucson market areas. Mr. Jensen graduated with a BA from Weber State University and then pursued his Juris Doctorate at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, skiing, biking and running.
Mr. Kilgour is a Director of Development for George Oliver. He has successfully led numerous redevelopment projects from conception to completion, demonstrating exceptional skills in strategic planning, financial analysis, and stakeholder management. Known for his keen eye for detail and commitment to innovation, Colter has a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget, while fostering strong relationships with clients, contractors, and community leaders.
Phoenix Community and Economic Development director, Christine Mackay, has served the people of Phoenix since August 2014. She is responsible for leading and fostering an environment where businesses can create and retain jobs, make capital investment and reinvestment in the community, and connect our workforce to employers and training opportunities. During Mackay’s tenure with the City of Phoenix, the department has facilitated the creation of over 100,000 high-value jobs, seen the average wage of those jobs increase from over $30,000 in 2014 to more than $80,000 in 2023, and closed deals with more than $75 billion in capital investment. Christine leads a department of over 55 full time staff that encompasses the full spectrum of economic development areas including: business attraction, business retention and expansion, community development, international relations, Sister Cities, the Phoenix Business and Workforce Development Board, administration, research, marketing, the City-owned Footprint Center and Phoenix Bioscience Core. In 2021, Christine was named as one of the Top 50 Economic Developers in the Country by Consultant Connect. She is a three-time honoree as "Economic Developer of the Year, Large Community" by the Arizona Association for Economic Development. Mackay was recognized as "Leader of the Year in Economic Development–Public Policy" by the Arizona Capitol Times, and "Industry Leader of the Year – Economic Development" by Arizona Commercial Real Estate Magazine. She has also been on the list of the Arizona Business magazine’s "50 Most Influential Women in Arizona." She is a member of the Economic Development Director's Team for Greater Phoenix, Maricopa Association of Government's Building a Quality Regional Community committee, Flinn Foundation Biosciences Roadmap committee, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), Commercial Office Real Estate Executives (CoreNet), the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED), and the Arizona Business Incubator Association. Christine has more than 26 years’ experience in economic development overlapping 30 years of commercial real estate experience. Christine Mackay has spent both her personal and professional life here in the Valley.
Karla Moran is the Manager of Economic Development for Salt River Project (SRP). She is responsible for leading the Economic Development team with a focus on attracting and expanding business and industry within SRP’s service territory; providing site-specific electrical infrastructure identification and cost analysis; and working collaboratively alongside state, regional and municipal partners to identify targeted company attraction, expansion and retention efforts. The team works towards building a healthy economy that advances well-planned growth throughout the Valley of the Sun. Karla has worked in economic development for more than 15 years, including roles at the Arizona Department of Commerce, the Arizona Commerce Authority and the Town of Gilbert. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University and is designated as an Arizona Economic Development Professional through the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED). Karla serves on the boards of CoreNet Global’s Arizona Chapter, AAED, the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council, Phoenix Sister Cities, and the Arizona Workforce Council. She is also a Certified Ambassador for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.
Rebekah started the twice-weekly AZBEX publication in February 2010, and has since grown the service into a multi-faceted resource for local Commercial Real Estate & A/E/C firms to find leads on upcoming projects, industry news, trends, and market insights. In 2015, AZBEX started producing events and now features four annual half-day conferences and six breakfast panels known as the Leading Market Series. In 2016, the AZBEX Database or DATABEX was launched. Both the events and database are engineered to bring opportunities to clients – whether it’s the contacts made at a half-day conference or bi-monthly breakfast program or the early stage notice of a project in the database, every service of AZBEX is focused on bringing opportunity to clients. Rebekah’s background as a large General Contractor enabled her to spot the opportunity to start BEX, but it is her grit, determination and eternal curiosity for the industry that has kept it going and growing each year.
Jason Morris is a graduate of the Arizona College of Law, and a founding partner at the law firm of Withey Morris Baugh, PLC. Jason’s practice is exclusively in land use, planning, zoning and government relations. His client list includes several national homebuilders, master plan developers, commercial-industrial landowners and Fortune 100 companies. He is currently on the Board of Trustees for the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Additional outside boards include Valley Leadership, Metro Phoenix Boys & Girls Clubs, Urban Land Institute, ASU Real Estate Council, and past Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Adjustment.
Kelly Patton has spent 23 years in the economic development industry with 18 years of experience specific to Arizona. She currently holds the title of Economic Development Manager at Arizona Public Service (APS) and is responsible for working with all state, regional, county and community partners in the attraction and expansion of business and industry within Arizona and APS service territory. Prior to joining APS, Kelly spent eight years in the Gilbert, Arizona Office of Economic Development and five years with the Kansas City Area Development Council. A Kansas City native, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Kansas and a master’s in business administration from Ottawa University. She serves in a leadership capacity for several regional and national economic development organizations including the Economic Collaborative of Northern Arizona (ECoNA), Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG), Pinal Alliance for Economic Growth, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), and the Utility Economic Development Association (UEDA). Kelly was also recognized by Consultant Connect as one of North America’s Top 50 Economic Developers in 2022.
Andrea Piering is an Arizona native who began working part-time at Sun State Builders in 1998 while studying at ASU. Andrea earned her Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry with plans of going to medical school and realized her true calling was in construction management. Andrea’s passion and proficiency quickly elevated her role in project management. During her more than twenty years with the company, her drive and knowledge for executing projects and knack for managing clients earned her promotions to senior project manager and vice president before moving into her position of president. Andrea is a master at relationship building, which helped solidify the company’s portfolio of long-term clients. She’s overseen construction on a wide range of projects from a 70’ tall automated freezer system and a high-tech food production factory to a state-of-the-art vehicle sales and repair facility. Andrea’s adeptness for managing timelines and budgets has been instrumental in growing the company during the past two decades. As a President, Andrea is focused on continued company growth, as Sun State Builders expands its services in the multifamily and hospitality sectors
Dan oversees all aspects of strategic implementation for BDC including investment and development oversight, land acquisition, entitlements, public incentives, and financing, as well as marketing, leasing and sales. Some of Dan's most notable projects include the one million square foot City Gate Center mixed-use project in Naperville, Illinois, the $100M Dearborn Plaza mixed-use project in Chicago's River North, and the AT&T/USG Building complex in Chicago's Loop, as well as VB|143 and Yuma|143 in Goodyear, AZ, the 72 acre Park 52 (On-Semi) redevelopment in Phoenix, and the 85 acre Cactus|303 project in Surprise, AZ.
Aaron Zeligman is a Sr. Project Executive in Facility Services for Banner Health. He leads a team that oversees development, design, and construction of Inpatient & Ambulatory Healthcare facilities primarily in the greater Phoenix, Arizona area. This has included large scale campus expansions, new Medical Office Buildings, and annual renewal of equipment & infrastructure. Aaron also has responsibilities in Facility Operations which supports his understanding of the full continuum of the life of a building. He has a degree in Construction Management from ASU. His background in construction and passion for improving the healing environment has led to a career in healthcare construction
